Victorville Motors in Victorville, Calif., has a special deal worked out with local high schools. In exchange for perfect work, two lucky pupils drawn in a raffle can win a 2013 Dodge Dart.
Asking for perfect attendance
Since the inception of the It's a Fuel to Go to Class plan, participating schools have seen a four-fold increase in ideal work, a higher proportion of state revenue for attendance and improved student academic performance. Victorville Motors has reportedly sold over five dozen vehicles in 18 months, as a result of the competition.
"I had no idea how successful it would be," said 47-year-old Victorville Motors dealer principal Tim Watts.
A local parent brought up the idea of possibly giving away a car to watts. The dealer has always been very involved in the community and raising money for local organizations.
"It wasn't just about us. We wanted to do it as a multi-layered approach and an outreach that includes other local businesses," said Watts.
Dodge Dart and on-target results
The Dodge Dart marketing has been successful for Victorville Motors' sales (850 new and 756 used automobiles sold in 2012) and for the local school district. Before the plan, approximately 15 to 20 kids at the district's three high schools had ideal work. Reports indicate that a "few hundred" are now without a blemish on the subject of work. Six area school districts and 12 high schools are presently involved in the competition.
In order to spur students toward their ideal work goal, supplemental awards like gift cards are used for motivation. By the end of the school year, those students who have maintained an ideal attendance record are given a special golden ticket through which they can participate in the Dodge Dart charity raffle. As minors cannot win automobiles under California law, if the winner is under 18, the car is awarded to the parent.
