Important Information About EMT Training in NYC

If you have the dream of working as an emergency medical technician in the New York City (NYC) you must undertake the required EMT training NYC. This training is structured and intended to equip the trainee with the skills that area vital in offering EMT services within the NYC as well as in the other Metropolitan areas in the U.S. Regardless of where you undertake EMT training, it must conform to the local New York State and U.S. national standards.

The New York State in which NYC is located has five certification levels; (1) the Certified First Responder (CFR), (2) Emergency Medical Technician- Basic ( EMT- B), (3) Advanced Emergency Medical Technician - Intermediate (AEMT- I), (4) Advanced Emergency Medical Technician - Critical Care ( AEMT- CC) and (5) Advanced Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic (AEMT-P). You must meet the training requirements before you can enroll for training in any of these certification levels.

The EMT training requirements for the CFR include that you must be aged 16+ years at the time of undertaking the certification examination. You should also be in possession of general education diploma or high school diploma. It will also be advantageous if you have undertaken Cardiopulmonary resuscitation accredited training in the New York state. You are also required to undertake and pass the relevant EMT examinations that can be administered either during or after the training.

Among the Emergency Medical Technician- Basic level EMT training requirements including that you must be aged 18 years or older. The trainee or applicant must also be in possession of the EMT certificate which is issued by the Department of Health (DOH) of the New York State. One must also be a holder of High School diploma or General education diploma. You should also have valid driving license from any of the 50 US states or an internationally recognized driving license.

Any person who meets the above and the other EMT training requirements can undergo training to become an Emergency Medical Technician in the NYC. The New York City is a large city and metropolitan area. The city employs may EMTs. Some of the NYC training institutions include Hudson Mohawk Regional EMS Council, Binghamton Fire Department, LaGuardia Community College (Long Island City), Tompkins Cortland Community College, Lake Plains Community Care Network and Borough of Manhattan Community College.

It is important to note that EMT training requirements are not uniform they may vary but not very much from the already indicated requirements. Before you enroll you may for example be required to show cause why you want to be an EMT.

EMT training takes place for a number of minimum of hours before you can get the certification at certain level. After completion of the required minimum hours of training you can then apply for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) examination.

EMT training may vary among those counties that have their seats within the NYC such as New York County Kings County, Queens County, Bronx County and Richmond County. Ensure that you seek the latest information on the training requirements for the EMTs at the county or borough that you want to work at.
