The Sony 40EX500 Bravia KDL Creates Better Images

By Pholaro Khuloab

The Sony 40EX500 Bravia KDL is able to produce accurate color representations using its matte screen. There are plenty of controls over the picture settings as well as facilities for streaming video functionality. A blue background color disrupts the darker areas. In addition its 120HZ specifications are not as impressive as they might have been.

Rough areas on the screen belie the 1080p/24 specifications which have been quoted. A reduced level of control over the picture settings is not a competitive advantage. Nonetheless this gadget is able to produce adequate images. Its pricing structure within the LCD TV set is fair.

Looking at the principle enhancements.

The lack of a thin chassis is problematic especially since there are many LED alternatives on the market. Without an Ethernet port this gadget struggles with internet functionality. This screen can compete with the edge lit varieties that are popular with consumers. The design is complemented by a double tone. A panel depth of four inches perfectly fits the Bezel width of 2.2 inches.

The screen lacks a single plane face but there is a swivel to compensate the user. For contrast you might look at the Samsung LNC630 with its panache attitude to design. In any case the stand base is able to support a low profile. Users will enjoy the flexibility of the remote control and direct menus. Forty one keys are complemented by a short cut menu but there is no RF control over the television. The lack of onscreen explanations is a low point.

Reviewing the major features.

The lack of direct access to the Scene picture presets is somewhat resolved by the dedicated remote key pad. It is not possible to play 3D movies or initiate HDMI connections. However users can take advantage of eight picture settings which are stored in memory banks. Some of the options include Graphics, Sports, Auto and Cinema.

In addition there is a Standard, Vivid and Custom model for changing the picture outlook. Users are encouraged to explore the Eco menu. The Sony 40EX500 Bravia KDL is packed with basic features including an ambient light sensor which complements the power saver mode.
