Safety Measures: Prohibiting Restricted Items In Self-Storage Facilities

By Kelvin Backer

Storage space troubles are the effect of people's capability to buy items and objects that they want but do not really need. Moreover, there are business people who need additional space where they could safely store their goods. Thus, the personal warehouse is a marvelous solution to the problem of storage space. Nevertheless, even if you've been informed that you could store anything and everything within a personal warehouse, you have to be mindful that there are, all the same, certain restrictions on particular items.

The restrictions were created for the purpose of keeping you, the other tenants, the warehouse facility's staff and personnel, the warehouse structure, and other establishments in the surrounding area safe.

So, if you are planning on storing some of your personal belongings in a self-storage unit, be aware that there are particular items that are banned from storage. To be properly advised, you must confer with the warehouse company manager who can supply you with an exhaustive list of the stuff that are not allowed in storage. The following, for your guidance, are the most common types of prohibited objects that cannot be stored in personal warehouses.

Objects that are categorized as inherently dangerous must not be kept in a personal storage facility. Kerosene lamps, motor oil, grease, fertilizers, paint, biological wastes, and/or items or substances that are combustible, biohazardous, toxic, or flammable are some examples of items, substances, and/or materials belonging to this class. Furthermore, stolen goods, illegal narcotics, contraband and smuggled goods should not be kept in self storage as well. In case a tenant is arrested, these items could stand as evidence.

Some facilities may have freezer units that can handle perishable items. Generally speaking, however, perishable goods and animal products are prohibited from being stored in a personal warehouse facility. These items have a great possibility of spoiling and can attract harmful pests and/or insects. To avoid any inconvenience or mortification, consult with the warehouse facility manager to learn more about items that are allowed and banned in a personal warehouse.
