The Lake District has long been considered the most beautiful National Park of the UK. Full of terrific attractions and stunning walks, it is a great destination for couples, families and lone travellers alike. However with all that is on offer visitors may find themselves inundated with options. Here we will take a look at some of the best walks and attractions found in the area. There is a myriad of places to stay and Kendal accommodation, Bowness accommodation and Ambleside accommodation are all options in great places to discover the beauty of this corner of England

Short day or half day walks are a great way to cover different parts of the lakes and including visits to town and villages dotted through the National Park. There are many walks to choose from, so many visitors use a little help from Alfred Wainwright, a famous lover of the Lakes. The Fleetwich and Hay Stacks walk in the north of the park involves walkers passing Wainwright's favourite part of the Lakes (The Haystacks) and where he was finally laid to rest. Anyone enjoying Lake Windermere or Bowness accommodation will enjoy the Hawkshead to Lake Windermere walk. It's best to start in the lovely village of Hawkshead where the walk takes you past stunning views across Windermere and can end with a ferry to Bowness for those with Bowness accommodation.

Also devised by Wainwright is the Coast to Coast walk which starts at St. Bees and ends at Robin Hood Bay. This 192 mile trek from the Irish Sea to the North Sea goes through the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales and the North York Moors. For people who are looking for a long walk but want to stay in the Lakes then the Cumbria Way is a satisfying walk which incorporates many sites of interest and goes through the very heart of the Lakes

Visitors to the Lakes with children should not feel like they can't still enjoy walking through this fabulous National Park. The 'Miles Without Stiles' walks include 39 routes which are easy to do with children and buggies. The best of these walks include the Tarn Hows, which is a beautiful walk which goes around the lovely tarn and offers great mountain views. Another brilliant walk for kids is the Scout Scar, this is a short but steep walk. Once you have done the hard part the views are considered some of the best in the country.

As well as walking, cycling and a whole host of outdoor activities, the Lake District has a great number of tourist attractions on offer. Heritage is a very large part of Lakes' attractions which include many Stone Circles, as well as Roman and Norman sites. This is a popular attraction which has the foundations of a Roman fort built in the Second Century AD. For those wishing to stay in the lovely town of Ambleside accommodation is plentiful and very pleasing. Ambleside accommodation is also varied and there is something for all tastes.

Tourist attractions for children in the Lake District include the World of Beatrix Potter. Europe's only Beatrix Potter themed attraction is a great testament to all of her characters including Peter Rabbit and Mrs Tiggywinkle. Located in the small town of Bowness upon Windermere, a visit to Beatrix Potter world can be combined with a visit to this lovely town. For those staying in Bowness accommodation of all forms is available.

Abbott Hall Gallery is an exceptional gallery found in a beautiful Georgian house in Kendal in the South Lakes. The gallery is home to many famous British works of art and is considered a very important art collection. Located in the grounds is also the Museum of Lakeland Life which attempts to demonstrate the history of life in the area through an exhibition of a typical street. These popular attractions can be found in the town of Kendal accommodation in this town can be found centrally as well as in the surrounding villages. Kendal accommodation choices range from town hotels to country cottages.

Walking around the Lake District is a rewarding and exciting activity. Luckily Wainwright has done most of the hard work and it is from him we can choose some of the very best walks. The area is also home to so many historical sites and museums meaning that never a dull day shall be had in the Lake District. Kendal accommodation is a good choice for people wishing to discover the south of the Lakes and Ambleside accommodation is great for people who hope to be at the very heart of the Lake District.
