Philip Seymour Hoffman And His Best Acting Performances In Years Past

By Benjamin Jordan

It is always interesting to come across an actor who, while extremely talented, takes a while to work his way up to widespread acclaim. One such actor is Philip Seymour Hoffman. For about 20 years, Hoffman has appeared in many movies but hasn't necessarily starred in them. I guess you can say he has had his big break, and now has the freedom to choose whichever roles he wants.

Here are my top five favorite films that star or feature Philip Seymour Hoffman in a leading or supporting role.

As far as recent movies go, Pirate Radio was one film that I highly enjoyed. This movie is based on the true story of rogue radio DJs who wanted the right to play uncensored music, so they headed to the seas. Hoffman stars as the ringmaster in this film.

Another great role that Phillip Seymour Hoffman played was as the villain in Mission Impossible III. This wasn't the best film ever, but you could not ask for a better bad guy.

Another great film that features Philip Seymour Hoffman is The Invention of Lying. Hoffman plays a bartender in this Ricky Gervais comedy. This movie takes place in a world where lying does not exist, and people are ruthlessly truthful.

One film that featured Philip Seymour Hoffman which I absolutely love is 25th Hour. Hoffman plays a teacher who is the friend of a man about to be locked up for many years (played by Edward Norton). As they enjoy their last night out together, things take an interesting turn.

One other film that I feel the need to discuss is the movie that nabbed him an Academy Award for Best Actor In A Lead Role, and that was of course the movie Capote. Hoffman played the part of Truman Capote as no one else could.

These are just some of the great films starring the ever so talented Philip Seymour Hoffman.
