Brandon Marshall's not going to sit back next year if the NFL does lock the players out. He's made it quite clear that he has a back up plan and it's quite interesting. He's anxious to get a try out with the NBA if the NFL does move forward with a lock out.
Marshall's ideal situation would be to get a tryout with the Miami Heat or the Denver Nuggets. Since Marshall spent several years in Denver and is now familiar with Miami, these teams make sense for him. He's made it clear that he's serious about this as well!
Brandon Marshall played competitive basketball growing up and throughout high school. However, he's now 26 years old and has been out of competitive basketball for quite some years. He's still extremely confident that he would have no problem making an NBA team.
Brandon Marshall recently signed a contract with the Dolphins that will pay him $47.5 million. This is only a four year contract, but if the NFL does hold out he won't see that money. He strongly believes that the NFL is going to lock the players out, so this is his back up plan that he's working towards.
If there's a lock out, he wants to be prepared. He will need another job (well, not really need it) and basketball is a real option. He's talked about his plans to be ready. He's planning on spending his free time with a basketball coach so he's ready!
Now that Brandon's left Denver, he may not have such a warm welcome at first if he did play for the Nuggets. However, he was a very popular guy with the Broncos and their feelings could easily turn back around for him if he returned to Denver. Brandon believes that the Denver crowd would give him a warm welcome home.
Everyone in Miami is extremely shocked by this news. However, the Dolphins staff didn't seem too concerned. In fact, the Miami Dolphins coach actually called him out on his lack in vertical and said there's no way he's making the NBA. That comment will probably make Brandon want to play even more! Brandon Marshall has set a goal and it doesn't seem like he's going to back down on this challenge if there's a lock-out. If there isn't a lock out, then he'll continue to make his big money with the Dolphins.
I personally don't believe the NFL will hold out and go through with their lock out, but if they do Brandon will at least give this dream a solid shot. It's always fun to see how talented these athletes are and to experience their multi-talented skills in other sports. But on the down side, the lockout would be a disaster for the league and fans.
